In Pursuit of Excellence

Dartmouth College Recognizes with Deep Appreciation the Extraordinary Achievements of

Robert M. Cohn ’66 Tu’69
2017 Class Newsletter Co-Editor of the Year Honorable Mention

For five years you, along with your co-editor Erv Burkholder, have served with dedication and enthusiasm as the newsletter editor for the Class of 1966. Over the past year, you have produced four engaging issues of Along Route ’66, a key component of your class communications.

Your newsletter reaches classmates in print as well as electronically on your class website. You have developed a straightforward, consistent design that makes your content easy to follow from one issue to the next. Each newsletter features an “In This Issue” table of contents on the outside cover, a masthead against a timely photo that changes with each issue, and a regular slate of features that includes events, reports from class officers, class notes and news from classmates, and obituaries.

A notable strength of your newsletter is the coverage of your class’s Reunions, mini-reunions, and other events. You produced a 50th Reunion handout with archival pages from The Dartmouth, a list of classmates attending, and a schedule of activities. Your post-Reunion issue continued the momentum, featuring photos, your new class officer slate, letters from your outgoing and incoming class presidents, a memorial service transcript, and a feature called “Notes from the 50th” that captured classmates’ reflections on the Reunion. Your coverage of ’66th Night highlighted local gatherings in 24 cities across the country. You also featured golf and ski mini-reunions, a Danube cruise, a preview of Homecoming, and informed classmates about upcoming events.

Your newsletter consistently highlights class projects and donations, helping classmates share in the results of their contributions. You featured details of your 50th Reunion Class Gift — the ’66 Bunkhouse at Moosilauke — with photos of construction in progress, and a letter of appreciation from the Outdoor Programs Office. You also included letters from your class’s scholarship recipients and highlighted the Spirit of ’66 racing shell donated to the Dartmouth Rowing Club by a classmate’s family in honor of his 50th Reunion.

Bob, your creativity, passion, and dedication to your class highlight the best of what a newsletter editor can be. Your consistent delivery of a high-quality communications piece for your class earned you the Class Newsletter Editor of the Year Recognition for Classes 26 Years Out and Older in 2014. It is with the greatest pride that the Class Newsletter Editors Association honors you with an Honorable Mention for the 2017 Class Newsletter Editor of the Year Award.
