In Pursuit of Excellence

Dartmouth College Recognizes with Deep Appreciation the Extraordinary Achievements of the

Class of 1981 and 1982
2017 Special Recognition for Outstanding Joint Mini-Reunion

The Classes of 1981 and 1982 are to be congratulated and recognized for their successful efforts to bring their classes together for a joint mini-reunion during Homecoming.

Though the Classes of 1981 and 1982 are not part of the same cluster for June reunions, there are at least 15 married couples between the classes and many, many more close friendships. Today, thanks to an impressive effort that brought together more than 250 guests, those friendships have only grown in number and in strength.

Communications leading up to the fall event included emails, social media, and a joint newsletter. The classes spent the entire weekend celebrating together and creating a combined energetic presence in the alumni parade and at many sporting events (both contests for current students and gatherings of ’81 and ’82 teammates). A joint tent held two welcome breakfasts, a lively potluck tailgate, and a memorial service for classmates lost too soon. Outdoor activities included hiking, running, yoga, and a “smackdown row.” But the highlight of the weekend was a grand party at the DOC House where alumni and their guests enjoyed seasonal food, libations, dancing, and enthusiastic, inspired company.

While the focus of class activities is most often centered around individual classes, this highly successful joint effort between two enthusiastic classes serves as a perfect example of the timeless friendship between Dartmouth alumni and families. Though the classes have called it their “Once in a Lifetime Joint Mini-Reunion,” we hope they – and many others – will consider hosting more of these inspired events in years to come.

For all these reasons, Dartmouth College is pleased to recognize the Classes of 1981 and 1982 for this remarkably successful engagement effort.
