For a recent Alumni Travel presentation on Islam in Europe and the United States, I read Christopher Caldwell's Reflections on the Revolution in Europe: Immigration, Islam, and the West. One of the few reasoned – and reasonable – accounts of Europe's experience with its growing muslim population, Caldwell's pessimism about integrating muslims into European culture and politics, and his analysis of the secular softness of Europe versus an assertive and self-confident Islam, is thought-provoking and troubling.
