Dear Alumni Councilor,

Please join us for the 199th session of the Dartmouth Alumni Council, Thursday–Saturday, December 3–5, 2009, in Hanover. The session begins Thursday afternoon with an orientation for new councilors, followed by the council's own “Ravine Lodge” experience at the Dartmouth Outing Club House to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the DOC.  We expect you all to know the "Salty Dog Rag" by the end of the evening!

Our opening plenary session runs 8:30–11 am on Friday, after which one of the very popular Alumni College programs will return you to the classroom.  While most councilors will have some free time during an open lunch hour, some committees will hold luncheon meetings. Our afternoon plenary session includes a presentation by Sylvia Spears, acting dean of the College; an update on the College budget; and a preview of the plans for the Visual Arts Center. The afternoon concludes with committee meetings.

At the Friday evening dinner, the Alumni Council honors Matt Dwyer '75 and Belinda Chiu '98 with the Dartmouth Alumni Award and the Dartmouth Young Alumni Distinguished Service Award, respectively.

Saturday's schedule is just as busy, with a report from the Dartmouth Board of Trustees and the popular Open Forum.

Present councilors will be our guests at the Hanover Inn from Thursday until adjournment on Saturday afternoon. Because of space limitations, some councilors, typically first-year representatives, will share accommodations. Current councilors who bring a guest will be charged a registration fee of $95 to cover guest meals and housing.

The council continues to extend an invitation to all former councilors to attend free of charge the plenary sessions and, in an observer capacity, certain committee meetings.  Former councilors are also invited to attend receptions and dinners, for which there is a meal charge (see registration form). Former councilors are responsible for their own and guest hotel accommodations.

Dress is casual during the plenary sessions and committee meetings, while councilors should wear business attire to the receptions and dinners.

Please register by November 2.  After that date, we may not be able to guarantee accommodations at the inn. Please register as early as possible by using the links above.

I look forward to seeing you in December.
