Dartmouth alumni from New Hampshire to Hawaii gathered on Saturday, May 6, to help serve their communities through the Dartmouth Alumni Day of Service. The event, in its third year, is an Alumni Council initiative that helps further Dartmouth’s longstanding tradition of community service and expand it throughout the country.

Alumni participated in 36 service projects in 16 states. The projects varied widely, from bedside visits and bingo with veterans at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center to building “KidPacks” of clothes, school supplies, and toys for low-income and homeless youth at Cradles to Crayons in Chicago.

In Hanover and the Upper Valley, alumni took on three projects: volunteers provided trail maintenance with the Dartmouth Outing Club on the Appalachian Trail, cooked meals and cleaned the grounds at the Upper Valley Haven, and joined Dartmouth student veterans to help clear a one-mile therapy hiking trail behind the White River Junction VA Hospital.

All told, dozens of Dartmouth volunteers gathered together, making a huge difference in their communities through service. Check out pictures from the different events below and on our Flickr account, and if you have pictures from an event that aren’t included, please feel free to send them our way
