Recognizes with Deep Appreciation
the Extraordinary Achievements of

Shervyn von Hoerl '96
2013 Treasurer of the Year
25 or Less Years Out

Shervyn, you have served the Great Class of 1996 as its treasurer since 2008. During the last five years, you have demonstrated an incredible amount of dedication, leadership, and creativity.

At Dartmouth you were a Presidential Scholar, member of Tabard, and a history major. It seems that your affinity for being able to remember random dates continues to serve you well as treasurer because you always submit your documents on time to Dartmouth administrators Jennifer Casey and Ann Harvey.

You also enjoyed spending time at the student workshops while on campus. Now you use that same focus and inventiveness in your position as treasurer. According to class president Kim Haring, you have "transformed the treasury." You have rebuilt the accounting, come up with new ways to solicit classmates, determined where money is best invested to secure the class funds for the long term, increased the checks and balances, and created financial policies that will carry your efforts forward--even if you someday decide to leave your position.

You have also gone above and beyond the role of treasurer for your class by helping reinvigorate the 1996 mini-reunion program, working on a 2014 global service day for the class, and even volunteering as reunion treasurer for the next two major reunions.

You continue to dedicate your time as an alumnus of Dartmouth as well. Between work in New York City and being a husband to Amanda and father to Benedict and Hildegard, you find time to serve as an interviewer for the Admissions Office and an Alumni Fund volunteer and to always offer sound advice and input to fellow treasurers over email and during Class Officers Weekend.

"Shervyn has been an incredibly dedicated, passionate, and talented volunteer for our class, caring not just about the work he does, but for every member of our class and for what is truly in the best interest of the class overall," says Class President Haring. "I have been so grateful for his expertise, his commitment to doing it well and doing it right, and mostly for his friendship."

Every class would be lucky to have a treasurer like you. It is our pleasure to award the 2013 Treasurer of the Year, 25 Years Out and Younger, to Shervyn von Hoerl.
